I4.0 and IIOT - from Top Floor to Shop Floor.

The world is abuzz with Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things. A new awakening into monetization of data in one of the most data rich environments that exist on the face of the planet.
After a lifetime of experience in this space, I have very specific views on how to reduce the complexity of legacy environments to enable pragmatic steps to realize an intelligent infrastructure that acts on data rather than an application centric approach. But that's only one view!
I would like to know what others in this space believe are the top 3-5 steps (in priority order) towards making I4.0 and IIOT a reality in manufacturing so data and knowlege can be unlocked from the shop floor to the top floor.

Margaret - thank you for your answer. We are very aligned tactically although my terminology is shop floor based. My only question is your step "0" - what do you mean by "Information Mgt" - is it a step or assumed internal prerequisite organizational capability? - Ray 82 months ago
Hi Ray - What I mean by information management is the processes surrounding knowing your data. The DAMA (dama.org)model is the best guide to leading practices in data management. - Margaret 82 months ago
