Trends in the Role(s) of Angel Investors

I would like to canvas folks on Currnt regarding current and future trends/opportunities of Angel Investors in start-ups. (If this is covered in previous Currnt discussions, my apologies). Nowadays, traditional venture capital outfits tend to look more favorably on those young companies already showing sales, perhaps profits, and especially control of market-disruptive products/technology. That being the case, earlier sources of cash (such as Angel Investors) are needed to support early start-up activities.

  • What trends do you see in the roles and funding dynamics of Angel Investors and venture capital outfits that high-tech start-up entrepreneurs should be aware of as they seek to obtain operating funds?
  • Is it important for entrepreneurs, Angel Investors and appropriate VC outfits to be physically located near each other?
  • For a situation where that is not possible, what steps need to be taken in order to optimize chance of success for the start-up?
  • Aside from cash, what else should an entrepreneur expect as a benefit from interacting with Angel Investors?
