Is the textile Industry offering more benefits than detergent industry? Or we are in a catch race?

The diversity of the textile world makes it both exciting and provocative as it brings together a wide range of perspectives like anti-crease, anti-static, Stain- repellent etc
While Detergent industry makes bolder and Stronger claims on shape retention, softer, long lasting fragrance, superior stain removal, whiteness etc.
Are these two industries in a catch race with each other.

The two industries are providing similar solutions, however textiles can now provide benefits which last much longer than those which can be provided in a wash delivered format. Beyond traditional benefits, textiles currently being developed can do things that could conceivably not be provided by detergents...this includes washable sensors (Loomia), the ability to transmit sound, and even the ability to provide muscle-type characteristics.

michael is spot on IMO. in addition, there is no race. there is plenty of room for 2 separate industries to co-exhist and ultimately capitalize on a similar product result offering to the consumer

textile is the more sustainable of the 2 simply based on expansion, innovation and creating a tiering approach. for example, just about any textile can be "post applied" with a water/blood/oil stain resistant spray (like 3M or Rustoleum)

now science is involved and there are technologies that last longer (forever) because the fibers of textile are impregnated with these "phobic" qualities in a vacuum sealed atmosphere. ultimately changing the molecular structure of the fibers. (ion mask , as example)
