Business and Beyond

In 2016-17 China had a projected 322BUSD on business fare class and United States had 303BUSD. China is doubted to be able to sustain the growth, but the US is projected a 4% increase in business travel year over year. The average business length of travel within the US is 3 days and international is 6 days. Most of the airlines with the business class sections featured in the video below are only on those international flights. How do we bring those experiences and crafted amenities to the business traveler on the shorter lengths of travel?

Just do it! Airlines could entice travelers to pay extra for business or first class if they actually offered the benefits of international business or first. But that is not the case. If you fly business on one of the airlines in the video you get private space and a lie flat bed to lay down. You also get better food and drink.
I did a quick search on United in the next month. On an international flight, Chicago to Heathrow, the cost of business is 5 times the cost of economy ($5000 to $1000). On a US flight, Chicago to Laguardia, the cost of business is also about 5 times the cost of economy ($300 to $60). While the international difference is $4000 and the US difference is only $240, the fact is that the business class passenger is paying for the space of 5 passengers in economy whether international or domestic. And besides space, the other amenities are pretty low cost to the airlines with domestic flights only including a slightly better food choice plus drinks.
I would suggest that if a person is paying for the space of 5 seats, they should get the space of 5 seats! But on domestic flights what you get is a seat that is 50% wider and has a few inches more leg room. Essentially on domestic you are paying 5x and getting less than 2x in space.
