Even amoung Blockchain experts, there are Blockchain puriests and others that are a little more open to the types of system integrations that should be advertised to shippers in regards to thier capabilities to participate in a Blockchain network. Do you believe that those that weill be successful in building Blockchain networks in Supply Chain must first tackle the pre-concived notion that this is more about some new magic technology that requires heavy IT involvment from thier own organization as oppossed to solving a business problem ?

It is a no-brainer that solving the business problem is priority and should always be the main focus of discussion with various stakeholders of the business network including Shippers. However Blockchain is much more than yet another intergration pattern and I believe that a healthy education on building networks without trust brokers is equally important and should be part of the discussion. Its definitely not a magic option, will need some heavy lifiting, but if done properly has transformative potential for the industry.

Supply Chain Management is basically the management of few flows in parallel:

  1. Flow of documents (contracts, POs, Receipt... Letter of Credit, Bill of Lading... Purchase Invoice... Claims...),
  2. Flow of finance,
  3. Flow of goods.
  4. In addition to that, the value chain of Supply Chain involves a lot of actors around the world (manufacturers, distributors, transporters, buyers...).
  5. One of the issues of the effectivenss and efficiency of the supply chain is transparency and traceability, where the Blockchain technology can bring solutions.
