Jerry - Let's start with the fact that you've done the due diligence and made the conscious decision to move to a postponement manufacturing environment as a differentiating and valuable strategy for the organization.
That being the case, you'll need to adapt process changes that retaining efficiency and quality control.
The challenge is matching up customer specifications and demands for customization related to: accessories, special features, add-on components... (in a discreet manufacturing environment), with your multiple geographies' warehouse and the maintenance/management of multiple SKUs and product options, all while supporting the business benefits that were your reason for adopting postponement manufacturing in the first place.
When I look at your LI profile, I get the sense that you know a lot of this. Certainly your IT foundation, Operations & SCM capabilities will come to play and the utilization of advanced analytics & BI (visibility & velocity of parts, and complexity for assembly) will help drive better forecasting & demand - overall, and as may be more regionally unique and variable by regulation or cultural nuances.

Hi Jerry,
What type of items are they...? if it is for fashion then i would recommend the STPLUS1 innovation that is backward compatible with existing systems and also has RFID. The combination provides both inventory management control and theft reduction with a reusable RFID inlay. Programming and association can be done to barcode. If you do not want reusabilty then traditional soft inlays can be used. Let me know if you need anything else. I also find handscanners give you higher accuracy for inventory counting. Regards Glen...my apologise if i am completely off topic...this could be another industry

VMI. Vendor managed inventoires puts part of the responsibility and cost onto the supplier to hold inventoires of , in this case compoments at locations that enable quick response to assembly locations. having m,anaged this in an apparel company , it allows spme felxibility to projections and keeps the copst of that inventory off your books.
