How can you increase foot traffic in today's retail stores?

Retailers bemoan the growth of on-line shopping as major chains announce lower sales and store closures. Yet, some stores are finding new ways to, not only co-exist but, take advantage of the digital disruption. In Lancaster, PA one outlet center is losing tenants and preparing to close while another, just down the road, remains successful and is expanding. What draws today's shopper and keeps them coming back?

It seems not all retail is not equal. There are some models fairing better than others, and if you are a mall tenant, you are probably better off if one of the more resiliant models shares your parkinglot. Here is a good article of which stores seem to be more resiliant. http://www.barrons.com/articles/whos-afraid-of-amazon-9-surprising-retail-winners-1495257706

Stores and / or malls need to reinvent themselves and stop hoping that shoppoing habits will return to their good old days. Smaller foot-prints, pop up stores and attractions to bring back mom and the kids could help jump start the retail community.
