ON MICRO-HOSPITALS

Micro-hospitals are licensed as general acute care hospitals, and they are reimbursed as such by public and private payors (e.g., under the inpatient prospective payment system [IPPS]).

And so … ARE MICRO-HOSPITALS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE?

It looks like micro-hospitals are going to be the future. The concept is very interesting.

Not only in North America but in South Asia. In 2015, state government of New Delhi started something same concept ( However they have clinics not hospitals)

MHs

Micro hospitals are emerging in some suburban and urban markets as a backup to community facilities — or in regions where there is not enough demand for full-sized hospitals.

Also called neighborhood hospitals, these facilities can provide lower-cost care for patients compared with traditional community hospitals.

It is experienced that government is unable to provide total hospitals facilities every where even in rural areas. So people are requiring to avail medical services. Hence clinic facilities are extended by individual doctor's and medical institutions which are fulfilling need of people which are good services in rural areas and even in urban areas.

Micro-hospitals could be a benefit to patients if they were placed with patient care and resource allocation in mind (i.e., geographies chosen would be currently medically under-served, and micro-hospitals would provide needed services to save patients needing to drive 30+ miles for routine or repeated services such as chemotherapy). However, the placement of micro-hospitals that I have seen so far in the U.S. seems to be aimed at capturing more market share of already well medically served populations.

Yes David, mobile medical trucks, buses and cars are becoming more popular for delivery of medical services in rural areas. They move from village to village with schedules that patience can follow up for treatments. Most of the trucks and buses have labs for blood and urine tests as well as some basic surgical facilities. For serious cases, then patients are then refered to hospitals. - Dr. Ernest 63 months ago
Mobile medical services are good solution for out reaching patients in rural areas, so that they may atleast have access to physicians as it could not be possible without hospitals and clinics - Dr. Ernest 63 months ago
Dr. Ernest Fongwa well explained .It is a novel idea .which should be implemented in all rural areas of total world. - Er. 63 months ago
