I work as a business mentor, helping start-ups deliver sustainable growth.

The key similarity of almost all of the start-ups I work with is their enthusiasm around their product or service. I spend many hours working with mentees to instil discipline around innovation and looking wider than the product or service.

Sustainability is as important as innovation in my opinion, and the need to deliver a product to the brief consistently is paramount.

If discipline is instilled at the beginning and written into standard operating procedures it becomes intrinsic and part of the organisational paradigm.

To start with, define the areas where the company would like to see improvements. It does not need to cover everything, it does not need to stop innovations in other areas but it would enable disciplined approach to innovations.
