Steve Blank covers this topic in his Startup Owner's Manual text. The key differences tie primarily to cost versus reach. Simply put, if you do it yourself (i.e. your own website) you can chooose to dedicate the greateest attention and it also the least expensive approach, but very limited reach unless you invest significant resources and efforts to marketing to attract customers to your website. On the other hand, aggregators can bring great efficiencies and attract more traffic, but they also charge for this.
