Beginning of the year, people is trying to guess new trends, so I do.
Which could be the new technology trends in 2019? I try to anticipate some but I would like to hear your thoughts on this:

  • Ethical internet. Discussions about iusolation, cyber-security and bullying are more and more frequent
  • From smart home to cities, however I think more time is still needed
  • Real time services
  • A further evolution of blockchain and digital currencies
  • Faster response time on internet, the speed will increase

Technologies that bring several people together in order to come up with more advanced and collective thoughts and solutions to problems. swarm technology: AI intelligence

Do you refer more to tech comminications breaking location barriers or something else? - Paolo 64 months ago
Ethical internet? - Dr. David E. 64 months ago
YES- 5G internet - Dr. David E. 64 months ago
Independent from the elements exists swarm behavior. It could be a group of birds, zebras or fishes. A complex number of individuals move as one, this is not only effective, but also beautiful for the observer’s eye. An ideal what scientists want to use as example to improve the decision making process. Internet, especially Clouds, have the possibility to connect individuals, artificial and human - Patrick 64 months ago
Swarm Intelligence is highly compatible with the concepts of Edward Deming, who understood companies as complex processes. Using the idea of the Hive Mind, knowledge not needs to be concentrated at top management and headquarters, but instead of this builds up and distributes over the whole local or global organization. Important predictions are not made in departments, but by virtual project gro - Patrick 64 months ago
DEMING = Old school - Dr. David E. 64 months ago
Industry 4.0, Cloud and Design Thinking are perfectly aligned with Deming. - Patrick 64 months ago

People have a mixed response to technology. Our working lives revolve around broadband speeds and connectivity but there is a growing backlash to the ubiquitous smartphone and social media. Lets hope that any technology developments have a human aspect.

So far it looks that we are trying to go more for the tech aspect - Paolo 64 months ago
Good point David. The uneven access to and understanding of technology can lead to seperation of societies, and populistic governments, which do not foster technology and science anymore. - Patrick 64 months ago

The blockchain is promising in finance and healthcare, but the digital currency may be going to die. The 5G internet service will be commercially available and facilitate the telemedicine. Just guess about innovation in 2019!

Maybe I am going against the grain but digital currencies could restart again. I fully agree with you on blockchain and 5G internet - Paolo 64 months ago

Paolo Beffagnotti , my thoughts:

  • Ethical internet. Discussions about iusolation, cyber-security and bullying are more and more frequent --> Agree, companies are discussion this topic more open, also as different cases rose awareness in society. Discussions are about ethics include also responsible and transparent algorithms (AI), to reduce the risk of decisions biases. Based on European GDPR, individuals have the right to understand why an AI has decided for or against them.
  • From smart home to cities, however I think more time is still needed --> Agreed,
  • Real time services --> The Gig economy is on the rise, so on-demand services will include not only relative basics, as taxi, but also white collar knowledge (like the currnt-platform for example)
  • A further evolution of blockchain and digital currencies --.> I am a bit more skeptical for 2019, as bitcoin and other currencies lost value. Also for other blockchains, I not saw many practical examples yet.
  • Faster response time on internet, the speed will increase --> 5G supports the Internet of Things, which include we will receive a lot more connected sensors. More sensors mean more data-input, which will benefit the implementation of Digital Twins for all kind of applications.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! The bubble of the digital currencies exploded last year, now the value could restart in a more realistic way - Paolo 64 months ago
Yes, but first trust had been destroyed, they could rise again, but it may take longer. and originally predicted. - Patrick 64 months ago
Yes it will take longer to rebuild trust as you mentioned, and maybe just the main currencies will be ablle to do it. I hope that increased regulation could help. - Paolo 64 months ago
Again, ethical internet? - Dr. David E. 64 months ago

Here are my thoughts -

Ethical internet. Discussions about iusolation, cyber-security and bullying are more and more frequent
Cyber security is a must and it'll be more as need then trend. Cyber Security runs parallel to any trend. I think with the large and growing numbers of IoT devices, cyber security needs will increase more and more.

From smart home to cities, however I think more time is still needed
Smart home are there but cities need a lot more things. Also, we need a better definition of "Smart City"

Real time services
I think real time services have quite a mature technology now ( push, XMPP, etc). With the help of upcoming 5G more IoT devices will be powered by cell network. Hence, I see a lot of innovation in use cases.

A further evolution of blockchain and digital currencies
Blockchain evolition for sure but for digital currency I can not say. Digital currencies are a subject of Business, Politics and Economics then technology. Blockchain has already proven that it can make powerful digital currencies. It's the government, bank and regularities have to act now.

Faster response time on internet, the speed will increase
I have some good hope for 5G. Though more then speed I would still bet on reach. Still reach is a big issue for cellular networks.

Which could be a better definition instead of start home? Regarding digital currencies, yes regulation will help to avoid a second bubble in the future and build trust - Paolo 64 months ago
I think smart home and smart cities are more than technology hub. Issues like Go Green and environment should also be addressed in a Smart City. So far its all about integrated devices. - Hitesh 64 months ago
Yes but how to go out of the integrated devices and implement something different? - Paolo 64 months ago
Cyber Security will NEVER happen. - Dr. David E. 64 months ago

Interesting subject and opinions.

I find that technology is falling in on itself, imploding instead of exploding.

The web/internet ethos of 2019: instead of more, there will be less - reining in privacy abuses, fake news, all sorts of invasive marketing and advertising, bogus product reviews, the list goes on and on.

Smart homes (whatever they are) are making lives more complicated, not simpler. Monitors strapped on your body every which way, beeping and vibrating, are a boon for the mental health industry - people are walking nervous wrecks:

What cardiologists think about the Apple Watch’s heart-tracking feature
Some doctors said that including heart-monitoring tools in such a popular consumer product could trigger unnecessary anxiety and medical visits.

I love technology. I have not all but a lot of the 'stuff' - Echos, a smartphone, computers, a tablet, a car with all the latest tech dodads built-in, an instant pot. But there will be a backlash.

Interesting points, thanks for sharing these. Why do you think about a possible backlash? We had it in some area as digital currencies and privacy - Paolo 64 months ago
There will be MORE EXCESS; not less. - Dr. David E. 64 months ago

Agreed that smart home and city is still at their early stages, but it is catching up. Perhaps a few more years are needed for it to be mature and fully disseminated into the society. However, cryptocurrencies seems to be dying down as people are looking more into real possessions such as gold, silver.....One thing for sure is that internet speed will increase as technology relies in internet. In today world, communications, connections and networking rely heavily on the internet services. Furthermore, humans rely on internet more than before. Thus, there is a pressing need to improve the internet services.

People rely more on internet, however we need to stop behaviors such as fake news, privacy leaks, otherwise we will miss trust on it and this will be a shame - Paolo 64 months ago
True enough, That is still an issue that we need to tackle as social media security is still a big problem. It is imperative to have technology that scrutinize the media world to filter out true and fake news and information for the better good! - Lawrence 64 months ago
The typical thinking now is "if you need an information just Google it", unfortunately it does not work all the time due to fake news and misinformation - Paolo 64 months ago
