What a ride 2018 was. Friends became millionaires in months and most failed to take earnings off the table. In 2019 do we come out of this ‘trough of disillusionment’, and what are the best bets to find value?

In 2019 people are more alert for crypto. I don’t think there will be any sudden rise now.

I would say 2019 or even beyond is not for cryptocurrencies. I think tech operators have already come to a conclusion that one good thing we get from Crypto is Blockchain. In Bitcoin drama that happened between Oct 2017 - to March 2018, investors lost more than they gained anything.
Bitcoin dipped and rest all cryptos just followed like ideal pupil of a blind master.

The best bet to find value is rethink your blockchain investment. Invest more on the giants who are doing Blockchain based work other than crypto.
