When a small to medium sized company has a portfolio of intellectual property thtis un-used, what should they do with it? Should they serch for a buyer, search for a collaborator who has additional IP that when combined the sum of the parts produce a better product? Should they seem to acquire a company with complementary IP? What do you suggest.

As with most situations....it depends upon the particulars. If the IP is not strategic to the company and it is not going to be utilized, and if selling it would not pose a competitive threat, then it may be worth selling...or granting a company rights to work with it and either improve upon it and or generate business with it and share in the proceeds.

A lot depends upon the merits of the IP relative to how much investment might be required to make it commercially viable. It might also depend upon how it compares with the state of the art.

Lots of questions with no fixed or standard answers. Net, it depends upon the particulars.
