Let me ask the question in another way. How could you use gamification or badges or rewards to encourage participation in contributions or use of content in your KM. Years ago, my organization gave out plastic backers to go behind your badge - they were about a half inch or so taller than the employee badge. We had a gamified physical badge. People were given lapel pins to put on this backer - in various levels for various levels of participation in blood drives, cost savings, KM, etc. People respond.
KM itself should be made as simple as possible, as it is often seen as a chore... and it is. Elements of gamification can definitely be used to make not the act of submitting more pleasant (less unpleasant). But particularly rewarding helps. Then a point system where points can be exchanged for simple gifts or charity donations and badging to visibly show ones contributions to others. Finally - certain badges can also find their way back into employee evaluation.
