There is a trend of dental offices beginning to sell a dental benefits package in their offices. How will this trend affect overall utilization of dentistry and will it have any effect on employer sponsored dental benefits.

Dental benefits through an employer are pretty inexpensive. So, I do not think this new practice will disrupt the employee from buying insurance through their employer. It is also easier to take care of all your health insurance (medical, vision and dental) at one time at open enrollment each year. I think the added issue of managing several plans independently will deter people who can sign up at work from buying insurance at the dentist

Dental insurance is not usually worth it. - Dr. David E. 64 months ago
That is another good point. Dental insurance has limited coverage. There are some dental groups that function much more like a n HMO and their rates are less (and insurance costs less and covers more) but they have the same negative issues for people that medical HMOs do - Ellen 64 months ago
