Can technology reduce healthcare cost? This is a controversial question. In some case, the technological innovation could reduce the cost, for instance, the application of curable antiviral treatment for hepatitis C. In a long term, the novel drugs can reduce the overall cost related to hepatitis C infections. But in other case, the technology can be a important factor to increase the healthcare cost, this was discussed in one Forbes paper: Technology And Rising Health Care Costs (https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2017/10/26/technology-and-rising-health-care-costs/#5f074564766b)

Just like what Dr. Lai Weihong stated in the earlier post, Technology could help in reducing health care treatment cost but also could help by detecting the disease in an earlier state which ultimately lower the total treatment cost. For instance : technologies that could aid in detecting coronary arteries blockages or underlying heart conditions such as medical cardiac exercise stress test, coronary angiograms helps to detect the disease in an earlier stage so that prevention techniques (which are economically wiser in the long run) could be Inco-operated into the treatment plan to prevent any further complications.

Earlier dx - earlier intervention = increased volume = higher aggregate costs! - Dr. David E. 64 months ago
