On line communities are developing fast, and they have a lot of advantages in terms of generating consumer insights on an ongoing and 'in the moment' way.
When it comes to emerging markets, however, there are still challenges in terms of reach and robustness in terms of low income consumers.

I would hypothesize that globally SMS texting is the major collaboration tool. High speed networks and smart phones maybe a challenge in under-developed areas. However, texting is more common and can be used on most phones nowadays. It's not your normal definition of an online community but it serves a similar purpose. Enabling virtual collaboration, knowledge sharing my multiple people. Most organization are drawn to the sexy stuff in technology on smart phone. For those with teenagers, texting is still one of the most powerful collaboration tools out there. And an underutilized source of research , insights on customer behavior
