Hello! I am a community development professional and I love what I do! I enjoy helping communities create active and sustainable environments that are conducive to the "live, work, and play" concept that planners so often strive to develop. I believe each community is unique and must capitalize on its own particular strengths in this increasingly global economy.

That being said, I also know that the problems and issues that many jurisdictions face must be met with a comprehensive view that relies on local solutions. I believe in a fair and holistic planning process that takes into account the views of stakeholders that aren't always at the forefront of thought. I believe that unbelievable greatness is possible through effective planning, but that without planning... we only plan to fail in the long run.

Community Development Director

City of Gladstone

November 2016 - Present

I manage a group of 8 professionals - my extraordinary team of everyday heroes - including a building official, two building inspectors, two neighborhood specialists, an administrative assistant, and a permit technician as well as an occasional planning intern. We are a committed group of people who each bring extensive experiences, perspectives, and personalities to the table of a population nearing 27,000 people. Developers know when they are working in Gladstone because we deliver individualized and outstanding service in a timely, transparent, fair, and friendly manner - service that is second to none!

We are heavily involved in multiple community development processes and wear many "hats" as a department. Recent efforts have focused on downtown revitalization and expansion, neighborhood preservation, corridor enhancement, maintaining our gold status as a Community for All Ages, and continually implementing novel approaches to code enforcement, zoning regulation, and community planning. We strive to be at the forefront of innovative thought in the Kansas City region (and dare I say the nation!), and refuse to relax as we continue to inspire one more smile in a place where people are "glad" to live, work, and play!
