In 2000, Joy obtained a BSc in Zoology from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She then joined the Federal University of Technology Yola, Nigeria, where she received an MSc in Applied Entomology and Parasitology followed by a postgraduate diploma in science education. She gained a PhD in Applied Entomology and Pest Management from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. During the period, she spent time at Central Michigan University (CMU), United States, where she gained experience of its transmission electron microscopy (TEM) facility in 2011. Thereafter, she proceeded for postdoctoral fellowship by Schlumberger faculty for the future at Auburn University, Alabama (USA) in 2015. Joy has undergone several training, notably, transmission electron microscopy techniques, mosquito culture, insect identification, insect behavioral assays, toxicological studies and analytical chemistry. She has worked on parasite in children and HIV individuals, integrated mosquito vector control and ecology of Buruli ulcer disease in Nigeria. Joy is currently in another fellowship by Schlumberger foundation at the University of Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, Vero Beach. Here she is expected to deploy the knowledge gained from natural product ecology in previous training against resistant mosquito vectors and related parasites. Her current research focuses on mosquito-parasite transmission blocking potentials of bio- pesticides. Joy is an enthusiastic individual who really enjoys research and learning new skills. She possesses the rare quality to conduct research to a logical conclusion under minimal supervision and changing situations. Joy teaches entomology at the University of Lagos’ Department of Zoology with a long term goal to develop a research laboratory that would focus on insect culture, natural chemical ecology and mosquito disease vector management.
